Dear Believer,
We often think courage means doing something.
Making the decision.
Taking the risk.
Opening the door.
Taking the next step.
But what about the seasons when there is no step to take?
When you've prayed.
You've done what you could.
And now… you have to wait.
Waiting can feel like the opposite of courage.
But sometimes, waiting is one of the bravest things faith asks us to do.
📖 This Week's Scripture
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalm 27:14
There is something interesting about this verse.
It doesn't say:
Wait because nothing matters.
It says:
Be strong. Take heart. Wait.
As though waiting itself requires strength.
Maybe because God knows how difficult it is for us to remain still when we desperately want an answer.
When Nothing Seems to Be Happening
Think about how much of Scripture happens in the waiting.
Abraham waited for the promise God had made him.
Joseph waited through years he probably never would have chosen.
David was anointed king long before he actually became king.
The Israelites waited.
The disciples waited.
Again and again, there is a space between the promise and its fulfillment.
And that space can feel terribly quiet.
We often interpret silence as absence.
But God's silence doesn't necessarily mean God's inactivity.
There may be things happening that we cannot see yet.
The Courage Not to Force the Answer
Sometimes waiting becomes uncomfortable enough that we start trying to manufacture an answer ourselves.
We rush the decision.
We open the door that isn't opening.
We say yes simply because we're afraid another opportunity won't come.
We try to control tomorrow because uncertainty feels unbearable today.
But courage isn't always pushing forward.
Sometimes courage is saying:
“I don't have the answer yet, so I will not force one.”
That's a different kind of bravery.
It's trusting that a delay isn't necessarily a denial.
That quiet doesn't necessarily mean forgotten.
And that God's timing doesn't have to make sense to us before we trust it.
A Gentle Reflection
Maybe you're waiting for something right now.
An answer.
A change.
An opportunity.
Healing.
Direction.
A prayer you've repeated so many times that you aren't even sure what else to say.
If that's you, perhaps you don't need to find another thing to do this week.
Maybe your invitation is simply to remain faithful where you are.
Keep praying.
Keep showing up.
Keep doing the small things in front of you.
And resist the temptation to believe that because you cannot see movement, nothing is moving.
One Question for This Week
When you feel impatient or uncertain, ask yourself:
Am I being called to move—or am I being called to trust?
Sometimes the answer will be move.
But sometimes the courageous thing is to stay.
To wait.
To believe.
And to let God write the part of the story you cannot see yet.
Until Next Sunday...
May you have courage for the places that require action—
and just as much courage for the places that require patience.
May you remember that waiting is not wasted time when it is placed in God's hands.
And while you wait, may you hold onto these words:
Be strong. Take heart. Wait for the Lord.
With love,
